Rental car FAQ

The rental company already photographs the car. Why do I need my own record?

Their photos are their record, kept on their systems. DateStamp is your independent copy — stamped, hashed, and in your hands — taken from the angles you chose.

What if I notice damage that was already there at checkout?

Photograph it closely and let the AI flag it, then review the flag before it enters your record. Documenting pre-existing marks at checkout is the whole point.

Should I take the return photos at the rental location?

Yes — photograph the car in the return lot before you hand over the keys, and upload promptly so the timestamps reflect the actual return.

Does the odometer and fuel photo matter?

It documents mileage and fuel (or charge) level at handover, which closes off a second common source of post-rental charges alongside damage claims.

Important disclosures

DateStamp creates a photographic condition record. It is not an inspection, appraisal, or legal opinion, and a report does not guarantee any outcome in a dispute.
The AI flags only what is visible in the photos you provide. It cannot detect what the camera didn't capture — poor lighting, blurry images, or areas you didn't photograph will not be flagged. Your record is only as good as your photos.
